Pope Benedict XVI

Passion Sunday, Gospel, John8.46-59

This Sunday marks the start of Passiontide. In 'sacred time' we begin our immediate preparation for the celebration of the mystery of redemption in the Easter cycle. The external signs of this  deepening of the Lenten period is marked by the veiling of the crucifix and images in the church (used as objects of veneration and not just decoration), the 'Gloria Patri' is not recited in the Mass or the Offices and the psalm 'Judica' is not recited at the start of Mass.
